Our Religious School

Our Religious School had its beginnings in the early 1990's. Over the years, our Religious School has developed into a vibrant effort serving our families whose primary residence is either in Hemlock Farms or in the neighboring vicinity. On June 12, 2005, the Arlyne B. Berkman Education Center became a reality. The Religious School now has its own home in this renovated building which was the original Jewish house of worship in Hemlock Farms.

The schedule for the year conforms to the regional public school calendar and includes all the Jewish holidays. Our term begins in early September and continues until mid June. We meet on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. To 12:30 p.m. Instruction is provided through small groups and specialized programming. If needed, individual tutoring is available.

Throughout our curriculum the following themes occur and recur: Jewish values and concepts; Understanding Holidays; History: bible, prophets, modernity; Life cycle events; Liturgy: Hebrew and Prayers. At intervals during the school year. We have Side by Side learning sessions where parents and/or grandparents attend classes with their children. These sessions usually revolve around the Jewish holidays. Parents also help plan and paraticipate in celebrations of holidays such as Sukkot, Hunukkah, Purim, Passover, Lag B'Omer and Shabbat.
